Its Mine
Editorial Reviews Children's Literature This lift-the-flap book is full of surprises and interesting art, but the story is confusing. There are two dog characterså_one has a bone and the other steals it. As Harry looks for Patch and the bone, the reader lifts flaps all over the house and farmyard, some of which reveal common sights, but some of which reveal Patch and the bone. Patch says things like, "And I'm closer than you think!" which leads to some confusion about who is being addressed, As Harry does not respond. The illustrations are realistic, very busy and wonderful for a parent and child to discuss. They will become dated, I expect-there is a Teletubby character and a Furby in one spread. At the end of the story, the dogs have a "bone-pulling match" and each takes a piece of the now broken prize. This picture book size book does not demand rereading. 2001, Happy Cat Books, $5.95.
