Little Kitten can't purr so she asks Dog whether he has her purr but he only has his woof. Perhaps Cow has her purr? Or Sheep? One by one, Little Kitten asks all the animals in the farmyard but no one has her purr. Where ever can it be? Editorial Reviews From Publishers Weekly A calico kitten thinks she has lost her purr and polls her fellow barnyard inhabitants to see who might have it. As her day draws to a close, she's made two discoveries: while none of her animal friends purr, they make their own interesting sounds; and her purrA"the most perfect purr" her friends have ever heardAcomes back as soon as she happily snuggles next to her mother. The straightforward text, peppered with lots of animal noises and cartoonish renderings of the farm denizens, might serve as a useful introduction to the barnyard. But British author West and Warnes (I Don't Want to Go to Bed!) don't offer up any surprises, and none of the animals exhibit particularly distinctive personalities, visually or verbally. Ages 2-7. From School Library Journal PreSchool-K-Kitten can mew, hiss, and yowl, but cannot make the noise that she likes the best. She is certain that she has misplaced her "purr" among the barnyard animals. She goes from Dog to Cow to Pig to Duck to Mouse to Sheep to Owl, all of whom explain that they have their own unique noises, but do not have a purr. Owl suggests that Kitten return home, and she does indeed find her purr when she curls up with her mother. The bright and colorful double-spread illustrations add spark to this book. While some of the descriptive sentences are awkward, overall, this is a fun title that will be great for storytimes, and toddlers will especially enjoy these delightful characters.
