She graduated from Anglia Polytechnic University with a First Class Honours degree in illustration and an MA in children's illustration. She won the Macmillan Prize for Illustration in 2003 and her first picture book, MABEL'S MAGICAL GARDEN (978 1 4050 5503 1), was published by Macmillan in 2005.
