Walker Kids
What are kids like? What do kids do? What's in a kid's pocket? What do kids dream of? All is revealed in this book. It is one of four reissues about the same children. Editorial Reviews From Publishers Weekly The latest picture book from the Anholts is a hodgepodge of musings on a very broad topic--kids. In a combination of question and answer and rhyming couplets directed at no one in particular, the text discourses on how kids behave, what kids look like, games they play and what they keep in their pockets, among other things. The ultimate effect is an aimless, lengthy laundry list. The book's sprightly design exudes some charm, with its gaggle of rollicking youngsters--though they all have similar features--engaged in characteristic activities, and with its large type that on a few spreads does some rollicking of its own. Most young readers will identify with at least some of the situations here, though the greater appeal is in the book's style, not its substance. Ages 3-up. From School Library Journal PreSchool-Grade 2-- ``Big kids, small kids, tiny kids, tall kids''--here is a happy-go-lucky field guide to today's child. Using a format similar to their What I Like (Putnam, 1991), this British team discloses the habits and secrets of kids both nasty and nice. Zippy verse moves readers right along, while the accompanying watercolor-and-ink drawings have a sprightly, endearing quality. Much of the book is comprised of portraits of youngsters in action, closeups of the impediments of childhood, and imaginative scenes. A few brown-skinned children add to the diversity of the group. The pleasure of this book, as in Richard Scarry's work, is in recognizing and naming the objects and emotions of daily life. Nifty. --Anna Biagioni Hart, Sherwood Regional Library, Alexandria, VA Copyright 1992 Reed Business Information, Inc. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.
