BOOK TWO in THE GOODFELLOW CHRONICLES TRILOGY: WHEN A YOUNG BOY BECOMES THE FIRST HUMAN IN HISTORY TO STUMBLE UPON A RACE OF SMALL CREATURES THAT HAS BEEN SECRETLY GUIDING AND INSPIRING "GIFTED" PEOPLE THROUGHOUT TIME, HE TRIGGERS A COSMIC CONVERGENCE AND A DANGEROUS CONFRONTATION BETWEEN THE FORCES OF GOOD AND EVIL. The adventure continues! With the end of the school year just a few weeks away, Sam Middleton is looking forward to a peaceful summer - until he receives a letter telling him that Jolly Goodfellow and his young nephew Edgar have disappeared. In this second installment to The Goodfellow Chronicles, readers join Sam and an expanding cast of Sage (a race of creatures who provide unseen inspiration to gifted humans) as they continue to explore the mysteries of an ancient and legendary scroll. When Sam realizes that his friends' disappearance has something to do with the scroll and that the scroll itself is linked to England's mysterious crop circles, he foregoes his plans for a quiet vacation and dedicates his summer to searching for Jolly and Edgar. But he isn't alone ... The evil Professor Mandrake is searching, too, and he has his own scroll to guide him. As the search for the missing Goodfellows ranges from England to the United States, and Sam and Mandrake battle for possession of the scrolls, we discover the origin of these special relics, as well as their importance to the history - and the future - of humankind. The Goodfellow Chronicles is a story of friendship, courage, sacrifice and loyalty. With an extensive cast of engaging and multi-dimensional characters, the Goodfellow Chronicles delivers a plot full of twists, turns and surprises, against a backdrop of the eternal battle between good and evil. The Goodfellow Chronicles was shortlisted for the Ontario Library Association's Red Maple Award, chosen as one of the Best Books for Fall by CBC Radio, awarded a Children's Choice Pick by the Winnipeg Free Press, chosen one of the year's Top Books by The Canadian Toy Testing Council, and given 2 Our Choice Awards by The Canadian Children's Book Centre. In a 2007 article "Where to turn when Harry retires", The Globe and Mail (Canada's National Newspaper) included the Goodfellow Chronicles in a list of fantasy series for children to read after they had finished the final book in the "Harry Potter" series. Editorial Reviews Review "Witty, imaginative and ultimately rewarding." - Amazon.ca review "An intriguing plot full of twists and turns, will grip young readers." - Canadian Children's Book News "J.C.Mills... has crafted an intriguing fantasy ... an engaging adventure ... Altogether a delightful read-aloud."- Canadian Children's Book Centre "... an imaginative, action-packed narrative ... Children who love reading will adore this book." - The United Church Observer "A new, young hero is about to emerge in children's literature, from the imagination of author J.C.Mills." - Books for Everyone "Action-packed and fast-paced ... this trilogy offers intricate plotting, enjoyably touching inter-species friendships, and a sense that young people have an important role to play in the workings of the world." - Resource Links "The Goodfellow Chronicles are sweet and old fashioned, told at a leisurely pace, about an ongoing struggle between good and evil - and the small Sage are charming folk, well worth meeting." - Bookloons From the Author The Goodfellow Chronicles trilogy was a middle reader series that I wrote for my son Sam, about a ten-year-old boy (also named Sam) who is accidentally launched onto a journey of fantasy and adventure that ends in an epic battle between good and evil. I wrote it in the style of the old children's book series that were popular during the 40's and 50's (pen and ink sketches included!) as I recall loving them so much. The whole project was a wonderful experience and I hope that by sharing the books that I write and illustrate with others, they may find a little something in them that they can connect with, too. Happy reading!
